Day 2

We are at the Grand Canyon!  Got here at dusk so couldn't see very much but what we could see looked awesome.  The first thing we did is we walked to the exact place where Chevy Chase, in National Lampoon's "Vacation", stands with his wife Elaine and nods his head and says, "Yep, yep that's it, now let's go!", or something to that effect.  We know it was the same place because Jon texted us the scene from the movie and David took a picture to compare.  Same exact spot!!! That's just nuts.  We drove around 650 miles today so it was a long day and we are tired.

The scenery going through New Mexico was so interesting.  All the mesas and mountains, then flat high desert, then into the mountains again around Flagstaff.  We have seen antelope and one deer.  I think I saw a dead elk calf on the interstate as well.  Tomorrow morning we are getting up early and getting on the sunrise bus tour of the canyon. I hope we see some elk.  There are elk crossing signs everywhere.

We are staying in the Kachina Lodge here on the south rim.  I got a winter package when I booked it so we have breakfast and the tour included for what it said the cost of the room would be when I looked on the internet.  We ate at the Angel Lodge tonight and it was delicious and excellent service.

After we are done here we will go to Aunt Pats and stay with her tomorrow night.  She is making stew and has invited Bruce to come as well.  She is so excited to see us and have family visit.

Hope you are all doing well.  Love you all.

  1. You must post a picture tomorrow of your view of the Grand Canyon in the first light of morning.
